A CONTROVERSIAL housing plan for 20 new homes in Sedgeberrow has been given the go-ahead.

The 20 new homes will be built at land near 49 Main Street in Sedgeberrow after Wychavon District Council passed it.

The plan was submitted by Leybourne Park Estates Limited.

Elaine Baird, who commented on the planning website said: "Mains drainage on Main Street cannot support another 20 large dwellings through its antiquated 6" pipes.

"Those of us further down Main Street will be the ones that get blockages and backup of waste not the new dwellings.

"Road drainage during times of heavy rain cannot cope at the moment let alone when this greenfield area has tonnes of concrete and huge houses built on it.

"2007 still vivid in this villages memory and not only Winchcombe Road was affected Main Street properties were also inundated with rain water.

The extra traffic and lack of local amenities will not stand a development of this size without a major rethink on the traffic effects on Main Street. "Parking will also be an issue."

Mrs Young added: "This housing site is a big concern for us. We live opposite the entrance to the site.

"We fear our privacy will be affected by any traffic using the road as car lights will be shining directly into our lounge and bedroom.

"We also have concerns about how the structure of the drainage system will be affected as there have already been many problems.

"Parking our cars may be a problem. We park on the road outside our house which will be directly on the junction."

Claire Jupp said: "I'm very concerned that Main Street already has a big flow of traffic, building these extra houses will create so much more.

"There's possible sewer issues and a bigger concern is flooding as so many new houses have been built in the village over the last couple of years.

"It does worry me, there are so many young children in the village and it seems to be getting busier and busier."

Rob Morris added: "Main Street is already a fairly difficult, even dangerous, road to manoeuvre, especially in the evenings.

"There are vehicles parked at different sites all along the road and they reduce the passage to a single track due to the narrow nature of Main Street.

"Additionally, there is often a complete bottleneck, or even a blockage, for larger vehicles like buses.

"Main Street comprises of many sharp bends, which, combined with the intermittent vehicle parking, makes for a very hazardous drive through. "Another 20 or 30 vehicles travelling on this road will only increase the hazard and accidents are increasingly likely.

"There is also the problem of vehicular access to the A46 in either direction. It is well known, locally, that the access to the A46 is difficult and dangerous but extra vehicles is not going to help."
