A MAN is due to stand trial for chopping off a woman's fingers with an axe a court heard.

Daniel Brown, aged 36, of Port Street, Evesham denies a charge of section 18 wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Brown did not appear at the short hearing at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday but denies the attacks on two women.

The section 18 was said by Judge Nicholas Cole to involve an axe.

He added: "The complainant lost fingers."

The other alleged assault was said to have resulted in the loss of two teeth.

The case was adjourned for a pre-trial review on May 14 when the defendant is set to appear via video-link.

The trial will remain in the warned list for the week commencing May 21.
