A BRAVE young Redditch girl who captured the hearts of the town as she battled a brain tumour, has died.

Lily-Mai Bishop died on Monday, June 25, at 2.10pm at the age of seven.

Posting on the Lily's Cancer Journey page, her mother Liz Bishop said the family was "heartbroken" and "emotional".

Ms Bishop said: "I am very heartbroken to say that Lily-Mai’s journey ended today (Monday, June 25) when she gained her angel wings.

"Thank you all for your support over the last nearly four years, it’s all been very much appreciated."

Ms Bishop praised the work of Acorns Children's Hospice, which helped care for Lily-Mai through the final stages of her life.

She said: "They have catered to our every need and are still helping us now and will do into the future too, we will forever feel like part of the Acorns family.

"If anyone would like to make any kind of donation then Acorns would be the place to send it and mention that it is on behalf of or in memory of Lily-Mai."

Lily-Mai, who has two siblings Blake and Chloe, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2014 and over the past four years well-wishers have raised thousands of pounds to support the family.

Ms Bishop posted daily updates and pictures about Lily-Mai's life on the Lily's Cancer Journey page, which has more than 2,000 followers.

Following an announcement on her death, hundreds of people have posted tributes and condolences to the page.

In April, Lily-Mai, who moved from Redditch to Worcester three and half years ago,  had her wish come true when she met CBeebies' Mr Tumble thanks to a trip organised by the Make A Wish Foundation.

Liz's partner Wayne Smith recently ran the London Marathon for the Make A Wish Foundation, inspired by Lily-Mai.

He took part in the 26.2-mile race and raised more than £2,000 for the charity.

Mr Smith is hoping to raise a further £6,000 to fund Lily-Mai a princess themed funeral with horse and carriage and bespoke coffin.

Posting on the page shortly before her death, he said: "Lily will never get married, will never have a prom, and will not be with us for much longer.

"Her mummy will never get to see her in a wedding dress or to meet her grandchildren.

"Lily-Mai’s daddy will never walk her down the aisle. We are hoping to make the day a celebration of our princess's amazing life."
