A CHARITY walk up the three highest peaks in the UK has raised £2,000.

Alex Daniels, chief executive of Cropthorne based charity, APT Action on Poverty took on the challenge with 11 other people to raise funds for the charity.

The Three Peaks Challenge saw them ascend a total of 10,052 feet over 23 miles on England’s Scafell Pike, Scotland’s Ben Nevis and Wales’ Snowdon in 24 hours.

Ms Daniels said: “As an organisation, we work with some of the poorest communities across the globe and see first-hand the hardships people are faced with in day-to-day life.

"For instance, there are rural communities we’ve recently started working with in Sierra Leone that have very little money, they’re living on less than $1.25 a day and as a result, people have very little food.

“We’re doing what we can to help turn this around by working with local community organisations to help improve livelihoods and food security and reduce malnutrition.

"We aim to help introduce education and training in communities, with an ultimate goal of generating employment and bringing more money into households to help provide safe, secure livelihoods opportunities, and enable people to feed themselves and their families.

“But we need money to do this, and more, to help those that really need it and keep projects like this going. This is where the donations come in.

"I’m undertaking the challenge to raise funds for APT Action on Poverty because the work is so important, and anyone that is able to sponsor me, no matter the amount, can be assured that all donations will go a long way in helping ensure that even more families across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia are able to eat every day.”
