DOG lovers have the chance to make a difference to a shelter in desperate need.

Dogs Trust Evesham are holding a recruitment drive for local people who want to give up their time and lend a paw to help homeless hounds to come along to its volunteer induction day on Saturday, August 11, from 9am until 11 am.

Dogs Trust Evesham relies on the support of its volunteers who have given in excess of 3,200 hours so far this year. From walking four-legged friends to helping at events, Dogs Trust Evesham says their work could not continue if it wasn’t for the support from their herd of helpers.

Natalie Gould, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Evesham said: “Volunteers are extremely important to us as a charity and we couldn’t care for as many dogs as we do without their help. We are always on the lookout for new recruits and really hope the roles we have available will appeal to a wide range of people. All volunteers will have full training to help them get to grips with their new roles and will get to meet plenty of furry friends along the way. If you think you could spare a little or a lot of time to lend a hand, please come along to our information morning.”

The Wickhamford-based rehoming centre already has a team of 60 volunteers, but the team are busier than ever and say they can never have enough help to keep the centre running smoothly.

More information about the volunteer roles:

Volunteer canine assistant

Canine Assistants are needed every day help with the day to day tasks. A typical morning would be cleaning and walking dogs so volunteers will need to be prepared to get dirty! The afternoon is a bit more relaxed with more time to spend grooming the dogs or having a cuddle in the kennels. It is important to note that this role is physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness.

Event volunteers

The Christmas Fair and annual Fun Day are the two biggest events of the year in Dogs Trust Evesham’s calendar. Volunteers are needed to help out in a variety of roles across all aspects of these events - from manning stalls, marshalling, helping with refreshments and organising event activities.

Gardening volunteers

Green fingered helpers are needed to help with the upkeep of our green space, flower beds, and helping with general upkeep and maintenance of all outdoor areas. This role will suit people who have had experience of or an interest in gardening.

To attend the morning, taking place at 89 Pitchers Hill, Wickhamford, Evesham, you must register in advance by calling Natalie Gould on 01386 835 853 or emailing
