A CHARITY for children in Worcestershire is appealing for support from local businesses.

The Worcestershire committee of Wooden Spoon is looking for local companies to select it as their charity of the year.

Wooden Spoon uses rugby to raise funds and all money generated in Worcestershire will stay within the county.

The Worcestershire branch is part of the national Wooden Spoon charity, which has raised more than £30million for disadvantaged children across the UK.

Worcestershire alone has raised over £300,000 since 2004.

This year saw the opening of an outside classroom facility for Riversides School in Barbourne, Worcester, which was officially opened by Warriors rugby star Jonny Arr.

John Gibson chairman of Worcestershire Wooden Spoon, said “This really is a chance for businesses to tick their CSR boxes with magnificent local initiatives all aimed to benefit local disadvantaged children. We now have over 200 active members in the county and are always looking for more- come and join, help and have some fun.”
