Ourside Youth Centre in Evesham has received funding through Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire to run new free multi-sports focused sessions.

The funding has allowed the youth centre to train staff members in multi-sport activation, buy the necessary equipment and pay for staffing to run the sessions.

A centre spokesman said: "Training staff as multi sports activators will allow the centre to respond to the needs of young people on the night.

"We can assess based on participant numbers, weather and desire of what sports session would be most appropriate and deliver against that.

"During the programme we can develop specific interests in activities and respond to the young people's interests."

Carly Elwell, director, said: "The need for this came directly from the young people as our ethos and primary aim is to be youth led.

"We then realised there is no other provision in Evesham that enables young people to come and try new activities on a regular basis, so the need to launch something like this became more urgent.”

Through the new sports sessions the youth centre hopes to provide the young people with new and exciting opportunities to learn the benefits of physical activity, express themselves and build confidence through sport.

Poppy Walton, sports session worker, said: “I hope to see positive individual development and provide a space where the young people can connect with one another. I am very excited for the launch of the sessions.”

The sessions take place on Thursday evenings and are open to all young people aged 13-19 regardless of ability, interests and backgrounds.

They take place from 6.30pm-8.15pm and are completely free to attend.

Anyone interested in attending should contact centre manager Bev Wride on 01386 424171, go to facebook.com/ourside.evesham or simply turn up on the evening.
