A CHARITY shop which raises money for Dorothy House hospice is celebrating after judges awarded it the title for the best Christmas window in Devizes.

Mayor Andy Geddes and chamber of commerce president Bob Gilmore called into the shop in Old Swan Yard to hand over the winner's certificate which will now take pride of place in the shop.

The competition organised by Devizes In Bloom attracted 36 entries and chairman Zena Robson praised the high standard. She is delighted that the chamber has now pledged to give an extra award for next year's contest.

Gift shop Cositas Bonitas came second and The Giving Tree, which also sells gifts took third spot. In addition to certificates the winners also received champagne and chocolates.

Ms Robson said: "I was out with Andy and Bob for the awards and it was lovely as the judges really engaged with the shopkeepers and talked to them about why they had won and what they liked about their windows.

"Devizes businesses always step-up to a challenge."
