A FAMILY friend of a boy who has been battling cancer is raising money to help with his recovery.

Sam Holmes, 11 was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma last February. He has now undergone all his chemotherapy.

Sam who has a rare type of bone cancer has had to have a knee replacement due to the position of his tumour. Now he also needs to have some lobes removed from his lung.

Family friend Sue Farmer said: "We are all hopeful that it can be removed. The fundraising is to help him with his recuperation and to raise awareness of his type of cancer."

Sam's mum Jill Herdman had a difficult time last year when vandals repeatedly targeted her car. On one occasion, the Blackpole Road, Worcester family were put under stress when Miss Herdman could not take Sam to hospital due to a smashed wing mirror. Luckily her ex partner came to their rescue and glued it back on.

Ms Farmer is organising two fundraising events for Sam. On February 22 there will be an auction of prizes at The Flyford pub in Flyford Flavell. Entry is £5 and the auction starts at 7:30.

On Sunday, February 25 there will be a horse power event where any form of horse power can attend. This will start at 9am at the Flyford. It is £20 per vehicle taking part, which includes breakfast and lunch for the driver. Passengers are £10 which also includes breakfast and lunch.
