A TOTAL of 25 entries were submitted by students at Pershore High School for this year’s Pershore Rotary Young Photographer competition, organised once again by Pershore Rotary.
Each entry consisted of a portfolio of three photographs on the theme “The Beauty of Nature”. A wide range of thoughtful interpretations gave the judges a difficult job in choosing the winners.
Alastair Cornock took first place in the Senior Section with his close-up shots of insects, with Liam Cook second and Callum Strickland third.
Lauren Eggleton’s submission was ‘highly commended’ by the judges. The winner of the Intermediate Section was Millie Vernon.
The winning portfolios now move forward to the next stage of the competition and ultimately, if successful, to the Rotary in Great Britain & Ireland national finals.
This year’s judges were Judith Fulton, a former President of Pershore Rotary; John Kellett, Secretary of the Vale of Evesham Camera Club and Steve Gledhill of the Virtually Grey Gallery in Evesham.
The judges said that there had been more entries overall than in earlier years and the standard of the work was really exceptional and had caused a lot of discussion. A Rotary spokesman said: "Rotary’s national youth competitions have an enormous impact in our communities, providing young people with the opportunity to develop their skills, the platform to showcase their exceptional talents and the chance to win some amazing prizes."
