Worcestershire-based singer/songwriter Abigail Pearce has been crowned runner up for Open Mic UK 2018 National contest Under 16’s category.

And the teenager had the wonderful experience of performing at the London O2 for the grand final on January 20, after beating 10,000 other entrants.

Abigail Pearce, aged 13, a student at Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham, had an initial audition in September and want through to the regional final at the NEC in Birmingham.

From there she qualified for area finals which were in Leeds on November 25.

At the London 02 she competed in the U16’s with up to 30 other finalists

A spokesman for the event said: “The national singing competition Open Mic UK has found its latest runner up!

“Joining a long line of prestigious Future Music competition winners, Abigail Pearce from Worcester has been crowned the Under 16’s runner up of the national Open Mic UK competition at indigo at The O2!

“The national singing competition is organised by Future Music - the company behind the discovery of so many top UK acts. Artists such as such as Jacob Banks, Lucy Spraggan, Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and Karen Harding have all been previous past winners or participated in the competitions; and of course, the first ever Open Mic UK winner, Warner Music’s Birdy.”

Birdy won the music competition Open Mic UK in 2008, at the age of 12.

Her debut single, “Skinny Love” charted all across Europe and earning platinum certification six times in Australia.

Her debut album, Birdy, reached number one in Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands.
