FUNDRAISERS have handed over a cheque for £1,000 to Help for Heroes following a fundraising event held in December.

Hundreds turned up to support the Hampton Ferry’s Annual Christmas Fayre and Lights switch-on Night at Raphaels Restaurant.

Ian Baldry, of Help for Heroes, said: "With ongoing donations being made through January a cheque for the magnificent sum of £1,000 was recently presented.

"A special thanks Sue and Bryn Walling for organising the fundraising.

“Help for Heroes believes that those who put their lives on the line deserve a second chance at life.

"We provide lifetime support for the Armed Forces Community and are here to unleash the expert minds, skilled bodies and courageous hearts of Veterans and their Families.

"Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses while serving our country and as a result of their injuries can no longer remain in the Services.

"This support is provided through grants direct to our Heroes and their families, grants to other charities and through four Help for Heroes Recovery Centres across the UK."

On average seven members of the Armed Forces are being medically discharged every day. Almost two of the seven are specifically due to mental health.

It takes the average veteran four years to come forward and seek help for mental related issues.

Help for Heroes wants to reduce this time having recently launched The Cut the Clock Campaign.
