WYCHAVON has once again proved its public loos are more than bog standard after several received impressive accolades.

Wychavon District Council entered 13 toilets in the annual Loo of the Year competition, and all 13 were recognised, with 10 being graded as platinum and another three receiving the gold standard.

And the Pershore High Street toilets were given special recognition, as the best non-attended toilets in the country.

The Loo of the Year awards encourage the highest possible standards in all ‘away from home’ washrooms, with the public toilets judged on areas including signage, hygiene equipment, decor and cleanliness.

The awards, given out by the British Toilet Association, come after the authority invested in upgrading toilet blocks across the district, including introducing energy saving Propelair toilets and Dyson taps and hand dryers at the Pershore High Street block. Two Changing Places toilets were also created by the council, which offer facilities for residents with severe disabilities. One of these toilet blocks, recognised with a platinum award, was Viaduct Meadow in Evesham. Among the gold award winners were Church Walk, Pershore, Milestone Ground, Broadway and Abbey park, Evesham.

Councillor Emma Stokes, portfolio holder for environment and street scene at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the Loo of the Year Awards.

“To have 10 platinum and three gold standard toilets is a great achievement.

“We are committed to providing high quality, hygienic and safe public toilets for the residents of Wychavon and we are proud to be recognised time and again.”

The next steps will be to fully refurbish the toilet block in Church Close, Broadway, and to replace the outdated toilet block on Church Walk in Pershore.
