A HEADTEACHER has expressed her delight after receiving a positive report from Ofsted inspectors.

Evesham Nursery School received a report concerning every aspect of school, namely the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; children’s personal development, behaviour, welfare and their progress.

The report has special praise for headteacher Marie Pearse, "who leads the school with passion and commitment" supported by an "exceptionally united and dedicated staff team" and by the "conscientious and proficient" governing body.

The report said the school enjoys support from the parents because ‘the staff work hard to support families and to welcome parents’ participation in children’s education.’

There was special praise for the strong support given to children who speak English as an additional language; for those with Special Educational Needs or disabilities; for the two-year-old provision and for the most able; all of whom make good progress from their starting points: "As a result children are very well prepared for the next stage of education".

The staff were particularly pleased that the inspection recognised the stimulating and exciting opportunities offered to the children based on careful planning and highly effective assessments of children’s needs. The inspector said: "The children are inquisitive, confident and enthusiastic learners because staff match activities closely to children’s interests".

Lorna Chapman, chairman of governors, said: "The excellent quality of teaching that enthuses and engages children which the report recognised, perfectly represents the ethos of the school where all involved are committed to improving outcomes for all children."

There was insufficient opportunity for the inspector to see some number skills during the inspection and staff will ensure that the evidence of all that they do will be more obvious in future. The report praised the developments in school and commented on the positive views of parents.

Marie Pearse said: "I am extremely pleased with the recognition within the report that the only Local Authority Maintained Nursery School in Worcestershire is making a difference for our children and families and for the life changing opportunities created by our wonderful staff".

"Children at Evesham Nursery School are happy and active learners."
