A WOMAN has died after a van and a lorry crashed on the M5 near Quinton.

Medics were called to the northbound carriageway of the M5 in Quinton, shortly after 5.15am this morning (March 21).

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic responded to the scene. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Ambulance crews arrived to find a van and a lorry which had been involved in a collision. Sadly, the passenger of the van, a woman, was confirmed dead on scene.

“The driver of the van, a man, was assessed and found to have suffered minor injuries. He was taken to hospital for further check. The lorry driver didn’t require treatment.

“There are currently long delays due to the closure of the M5 and motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.”

The accident caused the M5 to close at junction 3 at Quinton and it is expected to be closed for several hours.

Highways England have reported delays of 30 minutes on approach to the accident, with queues of traffic spanning four miles long back to Junction 4.
