ANYONE wanting to know what goes on down at the farm can find out when they swing open their doors to the public for an event next month.

LEAF’s Open Farm Sunday takes place on June 9, and this year hundreds of farms nationally are taking part giving the public the chance to get closer to farming and to see for themselves where their food comes from, how it is produced and to learn more about farming.

This year a number of farms in the region are taking part. This includes Appleby’s Farm in Bretforton, Broadfield Farm in Northleach, Church Farm in Barnsley, Court Farm in Stoke Orchard, Greystones Farm in Bourton in the Water, Guiting Manor Farms in Guiting Power and Wick Grange Farm in Pershore.

Old Farm, Dorn, just north of Moreton in Marsh, has taken part in Open Farm Sunday from the start of the event in 2006, only having a year's break last year due to a clash with a visit from Prince Charles.

At Old Farm's event visitors will be able to learn how bread and cereal is grown, and learn why worms are so important for the soil on our farm.

On the day visitors can also find out how farms look after and care for sheep, cows and pigs. There is also self-guided farm walk, sheep shearing and sausage making, see their machinery in use, as well as the always popular tractor and trailer rides around the farm.

Simon Righton, from Old Farm, added: “We are thrilled to have Masterchef semi-finalist Sarah Dugdale from Bourton-on-the-Water joining us to make some mouth watering lunches with meat reared on the farm."

Old Farm is offering a free ticketing system this year follow the link from theoldfarmdorn.co.uk. T To find out more about all the farms opening up their gates to the public visit farmsunday.org.
