A GREAT result was achieved by a promising young tennis player.

12 year old Briony Dando from Bowbrook House School won the under-13 age group in the ISA National Tennis Tournament on Wednesday (June 12)

Jane Aston from Bowbrook said: "It was good entry and strong field. We identified 6-7 strong players who obviously play a lot of tennis, we knew most of these players.

She started off slow and drew her first match, then won the next three which meant that she won her box. She was then into the 16 draw.

What they don’t do at the ISA tennis is seed the players for the last 16. Briony definitely won the tournament the hard way as she played the four strongest players in the last 16. Three were in her side of the draw."

The final was first to five games, Briony went three nil down and was struggling, but then stepped up and won the next five games to win 5-3.

Briony didn’t play the doubles. Her original partner was injured and Briony had played eight singles matches and was pretty tired.

The next time Briony will play will be 2021.
