CHILDREN were inspired by a special visit from a successful author.

Children’s author Guy Bass visited pupils at Church Lench CE First School on Monday 23rd September.

Guy Bass is an award-winning children's book author, whose series include Stitch Head, Spynosaur, The Legend of Frog, Dinkin Dings and Atomic!

Guy won a Blue Peter Book Award in 2010 for Dinkin Dings and the Frightening Things and has won a number of local awards, including twice winning the Portsmouth Book award.

First published in 2008, Guy’s books have since been translated into seventeen languages.

He has also written plays for both adults and children. Guy has previously been a theatre producer, actor and illustrator.

Guy’s event was an interactive (and active!) combination of stand-up, reading, pictures and props. His high-octane performance explored his childhood aspirations and inspirations and included animated readings from his books.

He was also on hand to sign books, posters and bookmarks for the pupils and talk to them about his writing.

Mrs S Price Headteacher said: “It was fantastic to host such an inspirational and creative author! Guy’s humorous interactive performance captivated the children and staff from beginning to end with a variety of different poems, extracts from his books and comic strip illustrations."

"Guy explained how he was inspired to become an author and how he spent his time as a child immersed in books and comics. There were many questions asked by the children and staff and pupils have come away more inspired to read his books and create their own imaginary characters”.

Mrs Price said: "Before he said goodbye he was very impressed with our new outdoor play equipment and asked to have a go on the slide."
