RUSSELL Slade felt his side went the extra mile as they managed to earn a point in a closely-fought National League North clash with York City on Tuesday evening.

Hereford fell a goal behind in the eighth minute, despite looking bright in the opening exchanges as York hit them on the break.

Alex Kempster's strike from inside the area took a deflection off a Hereford body before beating Brandon Hall between the sticks for the home side.

The Bulls then scored a goal either side of half time to take the lead against one of the favourites for the title this season.

"Our attitude was very good and our energy levels were good as well up until probably the last 10 minutes," Slade said.

"I thought the fact they're full time, made a few subs, looked a bit fresher and quicker to the ball later on in the game, but other than that I thought, certainly between the two boxes we played some really good football.

"We got on top in the game despite a set back to be honest, not pleased with the goal, but pleased with how we responded to most situations throughout the game,.

"In terms of attitude, we seemed to go the extra mile today to try and turn the game our way."

York then levelled the score 10 minutes from time, with the question of whether there was a handball leading up to the goal.

Slade added: "Disappointed with that because if we could just stay in it another two or three minutes we might have seen the game through.

"At that particular time they were breaking on us quite a bit, getting bodies into the box and leaving themselves a little bit vulnerable, but managed to get that goal which was disappointing.

"From our point of view, we kept going and we created chances.

"We were always a threat, and I think that was the thing, in the final third there was some really good link up play, little passages, little one-twos in and around the box, little slides and creating opportunities for each other and looked a bit more like a team."

It was arguably one of Hereford's best performances of the season where they looked a threat on the attack.

"If anything we were guilty of a little bit of overplaying the box, we were trying to open them up and we did," Slade said.

"I wouldn't have thought there have been too many games where York have been stretched at the back and struggled to cope with little interchanges and phases of play that cause them a lot of problems."
