THERE is a host of opportunities to get in shape for people of all shapes and ages in Denbighshire in the New Year.

Following the success of last weekend’s Nova Prestatyn P arkrun 5k event, January will open up a raft of events for more people to get fit in 2020.

Organised by Welsh Athletics Club Manager Eva Brewer, last Saturday’s event replaced a similar event previously held at Bodelwyddan Castle and, like all Parkruns across the country, starts at 9am each Saturday and is held over a 5k course. There is also a shorter,2k event to be held every Sunday.

Ms Brewer, who is also event director for the Parkruns and coach at Prestatyn Junior Athletics Club, said: ‘Opportunities for running and athletics in the area has grown with the start of the Nova Prestatyn park-run last weekend.

“We now have groups and clubs for everyone from aged four and above and a growing support network for people to take up running and for children to come to a club in their area.”

The Prestatyn course starts on the prom and heads towards Rhyl, passing through the Ffrith gardens and the former pitch-and-putt course before returning along the prom.

January will see a relaunch and induction for junior club members aged between eight and 15 for both the run club and athletics session, with new members invited to come along to the induction days on Wednesday, January 15 and Thursday 16 from 5pm at Prestatyn Leisure Centre.

Rhyl Runners are also inviting new runners to join their free ‘0 to 5km’ programme on Thursday16, meeting at Rhyl Events Arena at 6.45pm. The group also caters for improvers/experienced runners.

Monday Morfa’s group adds a walking and jogging group, in partnership with Healthy Prestatyn Iach, meeting at the Morfa Nature Reserve car park ,at the bottom of Lon Goed, every Monday at 10am.
