If your vision for 2020 includes giving back to your community with some voluntary work, why not consider being a volunteer with Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS)?

HWFRS is now recruiting community volunteers – people with a whole range of life experiences who support our protection and prevention work in local communities.

Our community volunteers are ordinary people from all walks of life who want to actively make a difference within their local community, helping to reduce the risk to the most vulnerable.

Bex Haywood-Tibbetts has worked for the NHS for more than 30 years but gives her time at the weekends to talk to people about how to prevent fires and accidents in the home.

Her volunteering activities have included taking part in station open days, attending family fun days with local employers, and in the annual HWFRS training exercise. She’s also done fundraising car washes and even been part of the fire service winning team at a local summer fete.

For Bex, her experience as a volunteer has been a very positive one and it’s something she would not hesitate to recommend to others.

“You do lots of different things and it’s about putting something back into the community,” she said. “But it’s also a lot of fun, too, and I’m really looking forward to when activities start again in the New Year.”

If you want to start the new year and new decade with a renewed sense of purpose, consider joining HWFRS as a community volunteer and join the many men and women from across the two counties who get a sense of satisfaction – and fun – from supporting the fire and rescue service’s prevention work in the community.
