Pershore Foodbank has received a £500 donation from the generous members of Pershore & District Round Table.

Thanks to local generosity, over the Christmas period alone the Foodbank handed out 2.15 tonnes of food, had 74 clients and fed 249 people of whom 111 were children.

Referrals to the foodbank are made from various organisations including churches, housing associations, medical practices, social services and schools. Three days of emergency food is provided per voucher according to the size of household and up to three vouchers can be used within six months.

In addition to this, the organisation funds two local school breakfast clubs.

Rev Lording thanked the club members and said that the foodbank offers a warm and welcoming environment, providing clients with tea, coffee and a chat.

It provides a support network aimed at helping people to get back on their feet by helping them access other services.

Donations of food, cleaning products and money are always most gratefully received as often there can be specialist items that may be needed.

There are donation boxes inside Pershore Abbey, ASDA, CO-OP and St Andrew’s in Pershore and a regular list of items needed published.

All four Pershore churches and other community stalwart volunteers run the foodbank, which is open in St Andrew’s Parish Centre on Tuesdays from 11am-1pm and Fridays from 1pm-3pm. During the Friday session, they fund Citizen Advice to be present to aid those requiring help or advice.
