WHEN homeless hound Dan arrived at Dogs Trust Evesham on January 30 last year, the team never thought he would still be with them a year later.

But sadly, that’s the case for the seven-year-old Rottweiler who has been at the centre longer than any other dog and overlooked by more than 6,000 people who walked through the doors of the rehoming centre and the 26,000 dog-lovers who have visited his website profile in the past year. In the last 12 months, just one family has been interested in him, but sadly that home fell through.

As Dan has seen the first anniversary of his arrival has come and go, the staff at the Wickhamford Rehoming Centre are hoping it won’t be too long before that special someone decides he’s the four-legged friend they are looking for.

Dan lives in the rehoming centre’s Specialist Training and Rehabilitation Unit (STAR) where dedicated staff work with him on a daily basis to help him feel comfortable around the things that worry him.

The team provide more bespoke training and behaviour sessions that will provide the dogs there with invaluable skills that will help them thrive in the right forever home.

The dogs live in a stimulating, minimal-stress environment where specialist staff cater to their individual needs and give them the support they require to be rehabilitated and rehomed.

Amy Healey, training and behaviour advisor at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “Dan’s kennel is in a quieter part of the centre so isn’t on view to the public, which may mean people forget to ask about him.

"However, he has been on our website since he arrived and his profile seen by tens of thousands of people yet only one potential suitable family has come forward to enquire about him.

“He is a stunning lad with so much potential and whilst he does have some worries he is doing so well with his training and is more ready than ever to fly our nest and into a forever home of his own – particular if an owner can offer him a bum scratch!

“He amazes us every day at how clever he is; he is so bright and eager to learn so a new owner will reap the rewards if they invest time in his training. He is always up for playtime too, firm favourites are tennis balls and tuggy toys and will always be up for a game! Dan is a firm favourite with all his carers and will be a great addition to the right home.”

Dan needs owners who are happy to take their time building a bond with him and come to the rehoming centre several times to see what an amazing boy he is.

Busy environments overwhelm him so he will suit a quiet adult only home with few comings and goings and no other pets so he settles in his own time.
