A pregnant woman with young children was left requiring medical attention following a crash on the M5 on Friday.

The crash occurred on the northbound carriageway between junctions 18 and 17 at 5.20pm on Friday evening.

Initially the female driver of a vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder but then left the scene. Police are treating the matter as a fail to stop incident.

The driver of the car, which left the scene, is described as a white woman, in her late 30s with dark hair, worn in a ponytail and wearing glasses. She was wearing a navy coloured nurses or carer’s uniform with white elbow stripes.

The pregnant woman in the other car required medical attention but her injuries were not serious.

Police believe the motorway was quite busy at the time of the incident and are keen to speak to anyone who was driving along that section at the time.

They would also like anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident or knows the driver of the vehicle which left the scene and is believed to have significant front end damage.
