AREAS around Evesham have been affected in the aftermath of Storm Dennis, but villagers are coping well.

A flood warning is in place for Wyre Piddle following the storm. Flooding of houses, roads and farmland is expected to continue. According to government information flooding may affect properties and roads in Wyre Piddle including Wyre Piddle Caravan Park.

Emily Priest from The Anchor Pub in Wyre Piddle says the village is managing well.

“It hasn’t really affected us that much really. We are very flooded at the back at the bottom of the garden, but it hasn’t affected the running of the pub.”

“Some people in the village have had wifi and internet knocked out but apart from that (nothing).”

“We are fine getting in and out, Wyre Piddle road is ok because the river is quite a bit further down.”

River levels remain high but are falling at the Evesham river gauge. The river in Evesham peaked at 3.27m on Monday. Further prolonged rainfall is forecast from midday on Wednesday.

River levels are expected to remain high for the next few days.

Jubilee Bridge, Fladbury, Brook Lane, Cropthorne, Eckington Bridge and Church Street are closed.

John Broughton from Eckington Stores, said the flooding has not had a significant affect: "The bridge is closed which happens reasonably regularly but all our deliveries have arrived and our customer base is pretty normal. The one thing we are affected by is passing trade because of the bridge being closed."

"It is only another five or ten minuets to get out of the village, so it's not a great inconvenience. It would be if Pershore Bridge was closed, but Pershore Bridge is open."
