KIRKBY Stephens mountain rescue charity has received additional funding as part of a £1 million charity boost project.
Fifty mountain rescue charities are about to receive a vital boost for new equipment.
Kirkby Stephens' will be able to use the £3300 grant on new equipment and to increase their ability to save lives.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “Our rescue boat teams carry out vital work to keep our rivers, lakes and inshore areas safe.
“These inspirational charities and their dedicated volunteers save lives every day, and this additional funding will ensure that they have the craft, equipment, and resources to provide these services year-round".
The funding is predicted to bring about great change in the efficiency and abilities these charities have to protect members of the public in the North West.
Kirkby Stephens is one of 9 mountain rescue organisations that is to benefit from this scheme.
The department of transport released a statement reading: "Volunteer organisations undertaking lifesaving search and rescue work are set to benefit from a £1 million boost for vital new equipment.
"Other volunteer teams around the UK including Freshwater Independent Lifeboat on the Isle of Wight, and Maryport Inshore Rescue in Cumbria, have been given funding for new lifeboats - ensuring rescue teams can respond to situations quicker and more safely".
