POLICE have issued a warning after a shed was targeted by burglars.

The raiders gained entry to the shed, in Glenlyon Drive, Utley, through an unlocked door.

West Yorkshire Police say the incident happened sometime between March 30 and 31. “Please always double check that shed doors and windows are locked,” said a spokesman.

“People often don’t secure their shed or garage in the same way they do their homes and end-up using a flimsy lock or padlock to protect the contents.

“Burglars know sheds are a weak point when it comes to security and often see them as easy targets.”

Items most commonly stolen are bikes, lawn mowers, and power and garden tools.

Advice includes ensure that doors, frames and walls are solid, replace any damaged or rotten areas with new sections, and wrap a strong chain around and through the handles of garden equipment and bikes and secure it to a wall or ground anchor.
