AN Evesham schoolboy has started his very own fundraising campaign during lockdown time at home – in silence.

Christopher Burfoot-Santos, a Year Four pupil at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School embarked today (Tuesday) on a daily hour-long silence, combined with an hour of physical exercise.

Christopher is aiming to raise £500 for local charity Caring Hands in The Vale and aims to continue with this daily challenge until he returns to school.

He said: “Every day I will be silent for one hour, as everybody who knows me knows that I enjoy an intelligent conversation and love chatting!”

In addition, pupils in the school’s Year Three have been learning about the work of the charity, WaterAid, as part of their new summer topic Extreme Survival, with teacher Mr JP McCumisky.

They were finding out about how some parts of the world struggle to survive with only very poor access to water.

Inspired by this, they decided to raise some money, by giving some of their pocket money, setting a target of £37, which is enough to by a village water pump. In just 24 hours, they had already raised £44.

Headteacher Jackie Smith said: “It is so lovely to see children continuing to put others first, even in these challenging times.”
