A POPULAR barber is hanging up his clippers after five decades in the business.
The government announced hairdressers can open from July 4, but following that announcement Melvin Crooke of A F Crooke in Evesham High Street, wrote on Facebook: “I hope you and your family are safe and well.
“The Covid-19 virus has changed many lives and made us look at what is important to us. It will be difficult to comply with the regulations the government have stated would need to be in place to reopen, so after a considerable amount of thought and reflection I have decided after 53 years in the hairdressing trade to retire.
“I would like to thank all my customers for their loyalty and support over the years and wish you all well for the future.”

After the announcement, customers and other well wishers flooded social media with kind comments.
Paul Allen said: “All the very best Melvin, you’re a local legend,” while Claire Jefferies added: “End of an era, wishing you all the best for the future.”
Mr Crooke followed his dad Arthur Francis Crooke, who originally founded A F Crooke & Son.
