A DRUNK man who was caught carrying a knife in a pub has been spared jail.

Police were called to the Hoop and Mallet in Callands at around 11.15pm on Thursday, March 5, after receiving reports of a disturbance.

Samuel Lewis, of Massey Avenue in Dallam, was found inside the Callands Road premises in possession of a Stanley knife which he had been using at work earlier in the day.

The 32-year-old admitted possession of a bladed article and a public place and drunk and disorderly behaviour at Warrington Magistrates Court.

This was the second time he had been convicted of carrying a knife, his last offence coming four years ago.

Lewis was handed a four-month imprisonment, suspended for two years, after ‘demonstrating insight into his offending’.

Magistrates also handed him a two-year community with a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 20 days and 200 hours of unpaid work.
