THE new Warrington Market is open for business.

After years of planning and construction work, traders can finally call the £11million hall home.

But in terms of further developments in the town centre and Warrington as a whole, there’s still plenty more in the pipeline to look forward to.

Here, we’ve rounded up just a few of these exciting plans.

Trampoline park

With the temporary market having now been vacated, what’s next for the building?

Warrington Guardian:

Well you’ll be jumping for joy when you learn it’s set to be turned into a trampoline park.

As well as ‘wall to wall’ trampolines, Gravity Active Entertainment will bring clip and climb, a ninja course with drop slides, wipeout, soft play, social darts, a ‘next generation’ sports simulator and a café and bar to Time Square.

The fit out is expected to begin this month, with a planned opening date set for later this year.

Bridges over the Mersey

Could the end be in sight for Warrington’s notorious traffic problems?

It is hoped that two bridges over the Mersey will relieve the pressure on Bridge Foot at rush hour.

The construction of the Centre Park Link Road is well underway, and you could be driving over it later this year.

Further down the line, the Western Link bridge will see another crossing added.

Bewsey and Dallam Hub

The £3.25million Bewsey and Dallam hub will bring a leisure centre, swimming pool and library to Longshaw Street.

After years of false starts, construction has continued apace even amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Warrington Guardian:

While the facility had been due to open in the late summer or early autumn, there is uncertainty over when exactly it will be ready due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

New restaurants

While the restaurant sector has been hit hard by lockdown, there are still plans for new eateries in the town centre.

World buffet Hani’z was set to launch on Bridge Street in May.

Although this opening date has been postponed, it is expected to feature cuisines including Thai, Japanese and Malaysian alongside Chinese, curries, and pizzas.

Over on Bold Street meanwhile, award-winning St Helens ‘dirty burger’ restaurant Brothers Burgers will be setting up a Warrington branch in the former Barnum’s Dance store.

Youth zone

The Onside Warrington Youth Zone has been years in the making.

While hopes of moving into the former Mr Smith’s building were dashed when it burnt down five years ago, it is now earmarked for a site on Winwick Street near to the Base and UTC Warrington.

Construction work is due to begin in 2020.

It forms part of a wider regeneration of Winwick Street, which has been neglected for more than a decade.

A towering 17-storey apartment block is planned off Tanners Lane, while building work is well underway on the long-anticipated flats at the junction with John Street.

Warrington Guardian:

Hotels and spas

Plans for new hotels in the town centre seem to be springing up with regularity at the moment.

One forms part of the Wireworks development on Winwick Street, but another will see former Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash transform buildings on Sankey Street into a hotel and spa.

Warrington Guardian:

Another scheme would see the upper floors of the old post office building on Springfield Street become an aparthotel.

Warrington Guardian:

More recently, it was revealed that the old Natwest bank on Winwick Street could also be turned into an aparthotel.

New Warrington Hospital

This one will be further down the line, but the first steps towards a new Warrington Hospital have been taken.

Warrington Guardian:

The town centre has been agreed as an ideal location, with Cockhedge understood to be among the favoured sites.
