SWIMMERS in Pershore will have to wait a little while longer to go for a dip, despite pools across Worcestershire re-opening.

Wychavon Leisure confirmed the pool in the town will not be re-opening this weekend due to maintenance work.

A spokesman said: "As a not-for-profit leisure trust, we pride ourselves on the quality of our facilities and services we offer to our communities and are fully dependent on the income generated from our customers’ visits.

"These are very difficult and challenging times for our business at present and we will endeavor to do our very best and go the extra mile to ensure the viability of our facilities over the coming months."

Despite this, Evesham's swimmers will be happy with the news their leisure centre is due to open again on August 1.

Evesham and Droitwich Leisure centre pools will reopen and be on the booking-only system.

Pershore members can use their membership at Evesham & Droitwich.

Wychavon Leisure is asking members to pre-book their time slots, arrive in their costumes and shower before getting there.

Tim Kirkham, area manager for Wychavon Leisure, said of the re-openings: "We are really excited to be back on August 1, we didn’t think we’d be opening this year at all but the government has said pools can re-open again.

"Without the support of the friends of the lido we really would struggle.

"They are such a supportive group and are so passionate about the Lido, they all love it and support it so well."
