A DRIVER has been reported after being found speeding at nearly double the speed limit in Bolton earlier this week.

The vehicle was found hitting speeds of up to 58mph in a 30mph zone in Breightmet, before being stopped and seized by police.

The driver was found to also have no license or insurance and was reported for the offences as part of Operation Considerate on Bury Road.

The black Mercedes was subsequently seized by police.

The ongoing Operation Considerate is a Greater Manchester Police scheme aimed at tackling nuisance drivers and those committing offences.

There has been numerous reports from the police of an increase in speeding across the country and region during lockdown, as drivers take advantage of the quieter roads to put their foot down.

Earlier this year, police launched a two-phase operation in a bid to remind drivers to obey the speed limits as lockdown restrictions start to be relaxed.

As travel restrictions start to ease, inevitably there will be more traffic on the roads.

And forces across the UK have started sharing messages across social media encouraging drivers to slow down and save lives in addition to normal speed enforcement work as part of phase one.

If you've been involved in a road traffic collision, or think you might have witnessed an offence on the roads, it can be easily reported on GMP's website at gmp.police.uk.

Residents can also submit dash cam footage of any offences they have captured.

People can also speak to police through its LiveChat service or by calling 101.

People should always dial 999 in an emergency.
