ALVECHURCH FC have notched up a 3-1 pre-season win over local rivals Worcester City. Played in blistering heat, the game at Lye Meadow saw Alvechurch field no fewer than seven 18 year olds across the squad.
Alvechurch had the better of the opening play and opened the scoring with a neat move down the right. City keeper Dan Jezeph failed to hold onto a shot from near the penalty spot and the ball was headed home.
City pushed high and forced an error on 22 minutes when Marco Adaggio scored the equaliser. The teams were level at half time, but both made a lot of changes to the lineup. Alvechurch making 10 changes with only Joe Hull starting both halves.
Alvechurch took the lead minutes after the re-start after Sam Hall gave away a penalty which saw Jezeph well beaten by Kyle MacFarlane from the spot.
Alvechurch made it 3-1 on 62 minutes after a well worked move resulted in Ben Cassidy scoring - giving him a place in the record books as the team’s youngest ever scorer.
The Alvechurch game was the first of City’s preseason fixtures. They play Redditch Utd on August 15.
