MALVERN Town have added further higher level experience to their ranks with the signing of Joe Billingham from Stourport Swifts.

The accomplished midfielder featured in almost 30 games in the Midland Football Alliance last term, weighing in with six goals

“This is a great addition to the squad,” said co-manager, Lee Hooper. “He will strengthen us going forward with his third-man runs proving hard to defend against.

“He is an honest player who is composed on the ball and when not in possession, will dig-in and work hard for the team.

“Like Platty [Lewis Platt], he joins us from the Midland Football Alliance where you need that extra bite and quality to be able to survive.

“As a squad we were great last season, but something we lacked was a bit of the ‘dark arts’; we were too naïve at times but these lads will change that.

“’Bills’ has slotted in well and is a good lad to have around the group.”

Billingham added: “I am really excited to join the club. There is a lot of potential here and I can’t wait to get started.

“Speaking to Lee and Dene about where we are as a club and where we want to be over the next few years convinced me that this was the right place to come to at this stage of my career.

“The ambition of the club and the facilities make it an ideal environment in which I can develop and grow with the team.

“We already have a strong group of players here but I feel that I can add to it and bring something different to the table.

“Being around the first-team at Redditch United and then getting a lot of game time at Stourport Swifts has been good for my development. I am a leader and a born winner; I’ll do whatever it takes to be successful and I am looking to really kick-on here.

“Pre-season has been tough; coming back from injury meant that I couldn’t run throughout lockdown but I am getting fitter and sharper each day.

“Being back in action is great and I am buzzing for the new season to start… it can’t come quick enough for me!

“My main target is to get this club moving up the Leagues to where we belong.”
