THE most popular baby names for the Cotswold have been revealed and they follow national trends.

In the Cotswolds the three most popular girls names given to new babies last year were Olivia (11), Lily (eight) and Florence (seven).

Office of National Statistics data shows Olivia was the name that topped the girls’ list nationally during 2019 for the fourth year in succession.

Meanwhile the most popular boys names in the Cotswolds were Arthur (11) George and Henry (both nine) and Charlie and Edward (both seven).

The most popular name nationally, Oliver, was given to five baby boys in the Cotswolds.

Meanwhile nationally Matthew went down by 17 places, bringing it to 99 and close to falling out the top 100 for the first time since 1954.

The number of babies called Emily saw a fall - that name dropping out of the top 10 for the first time since 1984.

Lara and Mabel replaced Aisha and Francesca in the top 100 girls’ names - Mabel making the top 100 for time since 1924.

And popular culture continued to influence the baby names landscape with popstar Dua Lipa’s chart success leading to the number of girls named Dua doubling nationally from 63 to 126.
