ARMED police were seen in a city street yesterday evening.

An eyewitness said at least nine officers were at the scene and at least three were "heavily armed."

They arrived in marked as well as unmarked vehicles and left with a man after a short stay in Oaklands - which is near to Worcestershire Royal Hospital - just after 6.30pm.

Another eyewitness said: "I saw around eight to nine officers, about three to four of them had assault rifles.

"One officer was stood stopping any traffic going down the road towards the scene.

"I went outside to have a further look and about five police cars we’re down the road. One patrol car was there until about 9pm."

A police dog unit, including handler, was also in attendance.

West Mercia Police were unavailable for comment.
