THE moment all theatre goers in the county have been waiting for happens later this month with the return of live theatre for the first time since lockdown.

Later this month Malvern Theatres Young Company are delighted to present a new production of Peter Terson's bittersweet drama Mooney & his Caravans.

This landmark production will be the first to be staged at the venue since March, when the lockdown began due to Covid-19.

Life isn’t simple with Mooney: he isn’t a man to tangle with. Charley and Mav, a young couple with social pretensions learn his little ways rather too late. When they move into one of his caravans they think they are taking a sensible step towards a rosy future, but that isn’t quite how things work out.

Actors Toby Burchell and Moa Myerson, who began their careers with Malvern Theatres Young Company, return to the Festival Theatre, directed by Nic Lloyd in this thought-provoking drama, by turns both funny and serious.

Mooney and his Caravans will be on stage at Malvern from Tuesday, September 15 to Saturday, September 22. Tickets are limited due to social distancing. Book online at malvern-theatres.co.uk or call the Box Office 01684 892277.

Also in September is a brand-new production of Doctor Faustus which will be the second show and centre stage at Malvern’s Festival Theatre. That’s on September 22 through to September 26 - the droned show is also part of the autumn season following the pandemic shutdown.

RADA’s Roma Farnell, originally from Malvern, has expertly adapted the demonic drama to create an atmospheric and unsettling one-man show.

This dark and devilish adaptation dives into the internal conflict and struggles of Faustus as chases the insatiable desire of infinite knowledge. The corrupting influence of power and the idea of sin, redemption and damnation all remain as integral to the plot as when the play was first performed in 1592.

Also featuring in This Mike Wilson Productions show, is GSA’s Harry Boaz, who was scheduled to take residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year and followed by a national tour.

As the worldwide pandemic shut down all live entertainment, the company was forced to make the difficult decision to postpone all performances indefinitely.

Mike Wilson, Producer and Company Director, said: “We are delighted to be part of Malvern Theatres’ reopening season this month. Creatives and audiences alike are desperate to return and enjoy live theatre once again, and we are thrilled to be at the forefront with our bold re-imagining of Christopher Marlowe’s masterpiece.

He added: “We are incredibly grateful to the team at Malvern for inviting us to perform on the iconic Festival Theatre stage.”
