A NEW cycle track has been officially opened in Evesham’s Charity Brook Park.

Wychavon District Council chairman Robert Raphael recently cut the ribbon on the Pump Track as part of a short ceremony which also included a display of BMX skills from semi-pro riders.

The track cost £37,500 and allows novice riders of any age to build confidence and skills on a bike away from traffic.

Experienced cyclists can also use it to enhance their skills without putting others at risk.

The unique design and tarmac surface means it is also appropriate for skateboards and mini wheels. Clark & Kent Contractors Ltd carried out the work.

The track replaces the previous one, which had been in place for 10 years, but had to be closed in November 2018 on safety grounds as it had become rotten.

A public consultation revealed there was strong feedback from users for replacing the track.

Councillor Emma Stokes, executive board member for environment and street scene on the authority said: “It is fantastic to see the track open and being used.

"It is a fantastic addition to our award-winning parks and will support people of all ages and abilities to get active and discover the joy of cycling.”
