A WORCESTER teacher who is competing on The Great British Bake Off has got everyone’s tongues wagging since the show began.

Rowan Williams, music teacher from Worcester Sixth Form College, is the talk of the tent among Great British Bake Off fans.

He was mentioned on Twitter more than any other contestant as episode two hit the screen.

The second episode of the Channel 4 show aired on Tuesday night, and it was ‘biscuit week’ in the tent.

Rowan, from Pershore, had captured almost treble the amount of mentions on Twitter than his culinary rivals, according to a study by William Hill Bingo.

Although fellow contestant Dave was crowned Star Baker, it was the county 55-year-old that had everyone talking due to his bold bakes and quirky quips – receiving 1,207 mentions across the social media platform.

He had been warned by judge Paul Hollywood to ‘rein it in’ and focus on finishing tasks rather than pulling out all the stops with his extravagant displays, and he racked up the most mentions on Twitter after narrowly avoiding the chop in week two – to the bemusement of viewers.

After all the challenges were completed, Paul and fellow judge Prue Leith decided to send Makbul Patel home after failing to be impressed by his Indian Chai tea service made of biscuit, with Paul describing it as “flat and clumsy.”

One fan said: “Rowan survived! Week 3 #GBBO here he comes.”

Another Twitter user said: “I think Rowan will win #GBBO. #GreatBritishBakeOff”

While another fan tweeted: “We have got a new national treasure on our hands.”

One viewer said: “Rowan is just comedy (but in a good way).”
