MARK Bonner believes Bolton Wanderers are simply showing signs of a side that has undergone a massive overhaul.
The Cambridge boss is looking to keep up his side’s flying start when the Whites visit the Abbey Stadium today.
Being top of the table is a position many expected Wanderers to be in at this point in time but it has been a tough start for Ian Evatt and his 20 new signings.
They head to the leaders in 20th and with just one win to their name but the U’s head coach believes that the difficult transition is completely understandbale.
He told the Cambridge Independent: “Bolton probably haven’t had the results that they would have hoped for and expected in the early part of the season, and that any of us would have expected.
“They have maybe taken time to adjust to a new manager and I think 20 new players coming in.
“They have a number (of players) that have played at the level above, and a number that have been really successful at this level and have played a lot of games.
“Sometimes, maybe cohesion is difficult to come by when you have so many so quickly, but the manager has influenced them in the style of their play.
“They are adapting to a new way of being and they are playing some really good football.
“They are a real threat with the ball. They are a real possession-based side, they have had more of the ball then every side they have played against this season.
“We have to ready ourselves for that. Can we control them when they’ve got the ball? Can we cause them problems?
“Can we put our game and our stamp on them as best we can like we did in the second half on Tuesday night (against Port Vale), and try to come out on the right side of the result again?”
