A GROUP has welcomed a step forward after a 20 year campaign for improved car parking facilities at Pershore Station.

The 1700 member Cotswold Line Promotion Group (CLPG) has campaigned for more spaces, as with increasing usage, car parking facilities have remained static with only about 20 spaces.

A plan adding at least 200 spaces of commuter parking as well as significantly increased parking for disabled rail users has now been submitted to the government.

CLPG publicity officer Julian Palfrey said: “Although passenger usage of the station has significantly increased over the years, the full potential of the station has been severely hampered by the lack of adequate car parking."

“As a result there is a great deal of surpressed demand in the Pershore area and it is vital that this scheme goes ahead to offer first class parking provision and facilities for Pershore serving the second largest town on the Cotswold Line between Worcester and Oxford.”
