BUSINESSES are disappointed that the government is putting them back into lockdown for a second time.

All hospitality businesses will close for four weeks in the latest government measure to tackle coronavirus.

Alwyn Sullivan, owner of Ye Olde Red Horse in Evesham said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous. Because they had us on curfew for five-and-half-weeks. I have lost about £11,000 since the curfew and now they shut us down. I’m really upset about it.”

“I have said I will sell alcohol to get around it all. Last time we threw away 110 gallons down the drain. But now they have banned us from selling take away alcohol. I can’t even do that. I’m very disappointed that they have hit the hospitality trade again. I just think they are not doing the right thing.”

“They are making all the decisions, but they have never drank in a pub like mine. The pub is the soul of the community. It’s heart wrenching.”

Miss Sullivan said: “I am really hoping that when we reopen there isn’t a curfew in place because I will struggle.”

“My oldest customer is 90 years-old. He comes in every day. So he’s going to be sat in his flat on his own.”

Miss Sullivan said as of yet she doesn’t know if any support will be given to help her through the lockdown.

"I might be able to get £1000 which won't pay my rent for the month. Even though the doors are shut I still have bills."

"I think we all need to get to normality but just be extra careful" she said.

Vincenzo Salerno, Owner of Flavours in Evesham said: “I am very disappointed. We spent a lot of money putting the restrictions in place and the government turns around told us to shut. We reduced our business because we reduced our tables.”

Mr Salerno said the only support he has been offered currently is the furlough scheme for his employees.

“We tried to comply with the rules, but the rules don’t comply with efficiency of business. If we are lacking on profit it is very hard to carry on.”

Until Wednesday December 2, under lockdown restrictions everyone is ordered to stay at home, except for specific purposes and avoid meeting people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
