AS we look forward to Christmas, Pershore’s tree has been chosen and generously donated to the town by a local butcher.

The Mayor of Pershore, Cllr Chris Parsons MBE met with Ken Tallis from Abbey Butchers and Tom Rimmel of Smart Cut Ltd on Tuesday and in the glorious sunshine, chose a beautiful Christmas tree which will be taking pride of place at the top of Broad Street in the town very soon.

Mr Tallis said “It’s been such a traumatic year for us all with social distancing, lockdowns, bereavements, illness and financial hardship for many."

"We need something to bring us cheer and I hope in these very difficult times, this tree will bring everyone a little joy and encourage people into our wonderful town to support our independent retailers.”

As news spread across social media with photographs of the chosen tree, messages of thanks to Ken have been flooding in from appreciative residents.

Hayley Morris on Facebook said: "What a beautiful looking specimen!

I've been shielding for what seems like forever but when it's up I'll definitely do a drive-by of Broad Street, to help put me in the Christmas spirit."

At the risk of sounding desperately sad, it's good to have something to look forward to"

Ron Amphlett said: "Fantastic gesture Ken, well done and it looks a beauty."

Hannah Hester Copeland said: "Such a lovely, kind gesture and wonderful looking tree. Extra nice reminder to support local businesses all year, but especially this year! Thanks Ken."

During the current period of lockdown Abbey Butchers is offering free home deliveries of any meat, cheese, pies, butter or delicatessen products over the value of £25.

In September Pershore Rotary Club named Abbey Butchers Coronavirus Community Champion’s and Mr Tallis and staff were presented with a special award for their support for the Rotary and their dedication to the community.
