FROM a 'psychotic' man who attacked a vicar's wife to a father and son cleared of attempted murder to a student convicted of a brutal nightclub attack, it has been a busy week at Worcester Crown Court.

Readers reacted with anger to the case of pervert Ian Richards, given a suspended sentence for downloading vile images of child abuse, including of a child of 10 being raped. He was photographed by the Worcester News walking along Foregate Street after he was spared an immediate prison sentence.

Despite criticism of the judge's sentence by some readers, it was harsher than the community order recommended by the probation service.

Meanwhile, student Jake Toriyen was convicted by a jury of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Alexander's nightclub in New Street, Worcester. The verdict was unanimous, the 21-year-old's self-defence case not helped by the fact that the whole incident was captured on CCTV. The victim was knocked unconscious. One of the more dramatic cases was that of a father and son cleared of attempted murder.

Connor Kendall and his father Mark Kendall both stand convicted of wounding following the attack on Dayle Warman and will now be assessed to see whether they pose a danger to the public.

The 22-year-old and his 37-year-old dad, previously of Breakback Road, Bromsgrove, were both unanimously cleared of attempted murder at Worcester Crown Court this week, resulting in gasps of relief from family in the public gallery. Read the story here.

People were shocked by the savagery of a group attack in Black Horse Walk, Lowesmoor, Worcester which left a man unconscious. A particularly unpleasant aspect of the case, quite apart from the ferocious violence, was that one of the defendants reached into the man's pocket and stole his wallet as he lay unconscious on the ground.
