FLOODING across Worcestershire “is expected to continue” throughout the day and into Tuesday in some areas in the wake of Storm Bella.

The Flood Warning Information Service’s latest updates feature no fewer than 16 flood warnings where “action is required” in the county – many of which affect Worcester.

River levels remain high at the Diglis and Barbourne river gauges in Worcester with flooding expected to affect properties in Quay Street, South Quay, Diglis Avenue, Hood Street, Pitchcroft Lane, Waterworks Road, Newport Street, Croft Road, Diglis Dock Road, Diglis Lane and Diglis Avenue.

It comes after the Diglis river gauge peaked at 4.8m on Christmas Day with Barbourne measuring 5.2m on Christmas Eve and with further scattered showers forecast over the next 24 hours, river levels are expected “to remain high into next week”.

Farther downstream, property and roads in and around Hanley Castle and Saxons Lode are at risk with Saxons Lode expected to peak above five metres on Tuesday morning (December 29).

Across to the east, flooding from the River Avon at Wyre Piddle is set to affect properties and roads in the village, including Wyre Piddle Caravan Park.

The predicted peak at the Evesham river gauge anticipated tonight into tomorrow (December 27-28) between 2.3 to 2.8m.

Worcestershire Highways has announced it has cleared 15 trees that had been felled by Storm Bella with a host of road closures still in place.

Eckington Bridge, Wadborough Road, Throckmorton to The Lea, Jubilee Bridge in Fladbury, Harrow Lane in Himbleton, the Dunns Lane flood gate, Brotheridge Green Lane (between Hanley Road and New Street), New Street and Hanley Road (B4211) in Upton, Brook Lane in Cropthorne, Waterworks Road in Worcester, Stourport Road in Bewdley, Bransford Court Lane and Walcot Ford have all been closed.

Horton Lane in Cutnall Green, where a car became stranded in the floodwater, was added to the list of closures at 2pm.
