ONE man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure – and a nurse from Pershore is turning super sleuth on walks to reunite lost items with their owners.

From glasses in Wales to signet rings in Pensham, Sharon Gresham has developed a hobby out of giving back bits and bobs she has unwittingly discovered while out and about.

Many may well see her latest mission as quackers as she seeks the origins of a perforated plastic duck but for Sharon it is a case of spreading a bit of light-hearted joy at a time when lives and livelihoods have been devastated by Covid-19.

And in her view it is much needed.

“On our wet, muddy dog walk I found a very old rubber duck with the number 185 and what looks like a 7 written on it,” she said.

“This duck has obviously survived all the odds of floods, drought, pike, humans, rats and all other predators.

“I found it stuck in the reeds along the river from Pensham to Great Comberton . The poor wee thing is rather green with algae and has a few holes but he has a very positive self survival glint in his little eye.

“We would love to find out how old the duck is, where it came from and why the number, something nice to think about rather than all the doom and gloom we have to read and see on TV.

Sharon’s habit of picking up rogue articles has made for mirth amongst family members.

“Over the past year my family have named me the finder of lost things,” she added.

“Last year I found a pair of glasses in the case, in a muddy puddle on a mountain in North Wales. After a few months the owner was found, he lived in Chester and had lost them on a walk.

“Then I found a gold signet ring also in the mud in Pensham fields. After a few months on Facebook I finally found the owner.

“I found a pair of glasses before Christmas on the way to Little Comberton from Great Comberton, I am still looking for that owner.”

So can you help? Was the duck part of a family that provided joy for little ones over the years? Did he have a name?
