WORCESTERSHIRE Sauce supplies were hampered over Christmas but makers insist they are getting to grips with addressing the shortfall.

Some supermarkets and shops in the region are stocking the smaller 150ml bottles but some gaps still exist when it comes to the larger 290ml size.

Worcester's most famous export was stymied by the "short-term availability of bottles" in December, quelling the usual flow of one of the nation's favourite condiments.

The sauce, produced in Midland Road, Worcester, is a favourite across the world with many splashing it on cheese on toast or to add fire to cocktails such as a Bloody Mary.

It was reported in June 2020 that a "bottling crisis" had prevented the company from replenishing supermarket shelves during the first Covid-19 lockdown and Worcester News understands the pandemic was a factor in this latest supply issue.

But having replenished depleted stocks of bottles, Kraft Heinz is confident of plugging the last of the gaps on supermarket shelves.

“The good news is that the short-term bottle availability issues have been stabilised,” said a company spokesperson.

“We now have a steady supply flowing to replace previous gaps and this includes the popular larger 290ml bottle of Lea & Perrins Original & Genuine Worcestershire Sauce.”
