PUPILS have said thank you to members of the Pershore Rotary club who donated £1,000 for Abbey Park Middle School to buy equipment for its pupils.

During the current coronavirus lockdown, Abbey Park in Pershore was faced with having to teach children in homes without IT equipment. The school put a call out for donations of unwanted, working IT devices ensuring that all donated equipment would be wiped and reset before being re-homed with their families.

Pershore Rotarian, Alan Tromans picked up the message and donated a laptop and collected nine others from the community.

In addition, business club members donated £1,000 for protective cases, IT licences and art materials.

By early February, the school had still not received their IT equipment from the Government. However, with the equipment and money donated by Pershore Rotary, Abbey Park Schools business manager, Sam Faulkner, said they now had a majority of families able to access the internet and that this was making a huge difference to children’s learning.

The money received had also been used to buy craft materials for the Nursery at Abbey Park School. Evie, a pupil at the school, wrote a ‘thank you’ card which was one of many received from delighted children.

Pershore Rotary business club chairman, Jo Taylor, said “Home schooling is hard enough, as parents we are not trained teachers, but home schooling without any resources must make it almost impossible. We will continue to fund raise so we can continue to support Abbey Park Federation of Schools.”
