A FURNITURE reuse charity in Blackminster is appealing for donations of essential items for those in need during lockdown.

The charity, Roundabout, collects household furniture and other domestic items.

The items are distributed to families and individuals on low incomes and are in financial need or who have experienced devastation, such as by flooding or a fire.

The charity temporarily closed down on January 5 in line with Government guidelines, but behind the scenes Roundabout CEO Peter Andrews and two colleagues have continued with supplying essentially free furniture items to individuals and families in financial need through their referral process utilised by housing officers, and health professionals.

Peter said. ‘Deprivation does not just disappear with lockdown and so my colleagues Andy Brimm and Paul Byatt and I have continued supplying essential furniture via our referral process in line with our Covid secure protocol.

“To date we have completed 34 deliveries of furniture across a wide area of Worcestershire and West Warwickshire, however we have now encountered a major supply problem.

“At the commencement of the latest lockdown we suspended all collections of donated furniture until further notice and so we have now exhausted our existing supplies of essential furniture items stored within our large warehouse.

“To enable us to continue and meet the demand for requests for furniture we are in urgent need of furniture items that will fit easily into modern social housing and flats.”

The company require: Double and single bed bases, divan type bed bases which must be in a reusable condition and have a fire safety label, wardrobes - dimensions not to exceed 85cm in width and 190cm in height, chests of drawers in reusable condition, small sideboards in reusable condition, which are clean, reusable and have a fire safety label, and small kitchen tables.

Mr Andrews added: “During the pandemic any furniture donations will be collected in a Covid secure manner by prior arrangement to ensure the Roundabout staff do not have to enter properties unnecessarily.”

At the present time Roundabout can only be contacted by e-mail. To contact the charity visit www.roundaboutevesham.org.uk or email manager@roundaboutevesham.org.uk
